It was during this time that he lived near the filming location of "Hell's Kitchen" in Manhattan and met Kenny Kramer, who would later become the inspiration for the character Cosmo Kramer on "Seinfeld".

David attended the University of Maryland and started doing stand-up comedy in New York night clubs in Inhe was hired to write and perform for the comedy variety show Fridays, which was modelled after Saturday Night Live.
